Popular Theatre Community Organizing Course
Learn to use theatre for education, community development, conflict resolution, activism and public awareness.
For: Educators, Community Workers, Students, Facilitators and Actors
The Popular Theatre Community Organizing Course is an experiential course that teaches students how democracy theatre techniques, particularly forum theatre and invisible theatre, can be used to create meaningful social change. This course is designed to enable students to facilitate democracy theatre techniques as a visioning exercise which encourages communities to identify issues of importance, explore their complexities, and develop action plans to transform their problems. Techniques will be rehearsed, case studies reviewed and ethical issues discussed. The course will end with an opportunity to practice newly acquired popular theatre skills at an optional public showcasing on Sunday evening.
No experience necessary. Experience Welcome. Jessica Bleuer has facilitated democracy theatre workshops and programs in over twenty various community centres, not-for-profits, high schools, universities and peace camps for ethnic groups in conflict, in Canada, USA, Northern Ireland and South Korea.
Course Dates:
Friday July 20th -- 6:00-9:00pm
Saturday July 21st -- 10:00-6:00pm
Sunday July 22nd -- 10:00 -6:00pm
Sunday optional showcasing of skills: 7:00-9:00pm
Cost: $175
