The Youth Alliance for Social Action along with West African Witness and the Netherlands Institute for Southern Africa and TakingITGlobal Sierra Leone present \"Diamond Matters: Advocating for positive social transformations in the diamond industry,\" a photo exhibition detailing the diamond trade in Sierra Leone, Angola and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The exhibit opens on 11 January 2006 at the Milton Margai College of Education and Technology, Goderich Campus, and will stay for three days.
It then moves to the following institutions in Freetown:
19 Jan - 21 Jan Ahmadiyya Muslim Secondary School
24 Jan - 26 Jan Model Government Secondary School
30 Jan - 1 Feb Vine Memorial Secondary School
The event will conclude with a conference at the British Council on 14 February 2006. The exhibition aims to start a dialogue between all stakeholders to the issue of diamond mining on how to improve the conditions and impacts of such a high value resource on host communities. |
