DetailsAbout
Citizens around the world seek more transparent, responsive and accountable government. Although Nigerians seek the same but most Nigerians are preoccupied by their personal challenges for survival and better life rather than engage in issues concerning the government to the detriment of our political, economic and social development.

Accountability requires not only a technical process of monitoring government activities, looking at facts and statistics but also political process involving citizens and civil society to organize and participate effectively in democratic processes. Exploring the evolving governance and political structures however, this is not so.

How do we develop a culture of participatory governance amongst the citizens and CSO to build grassroots participation and accountability in governance? How do we improve accountability and transparency? How do we make ourselves accountable in a country where political position means the same as wealth, jobs and employment opportunity? These are some of the questions this conference seeks to resolve.

This conference will provide an opportunity for focal discussion on the critical issues of enhancing greater demand for voice and accountability by the people themselves for better public policy and practice, Citizenship, corruption, and government service delivery.
The key constraints faced by the citizens and civil society in engaging with government for effective participatory governance and explore ways in which to overcome some of these challenges. By focusing on participatory governance at the local level we are more likely to achieve the MDGs.
It will be a public event and a closed workshop for selected youths based on open interactive sharing and learning through group work.
