Invitation to the Inaugural EthnoDesignFashionWeek, 5-8 December 2007

Design Duo Announces the Inaugural EthnoDesignFashionWeek

With the goal of establishing an ethnocentric fashion enthusiasm and increasing directional awareness for ecological designs, the BlackScissors duo of Novell Zwangendaba and Peter Rabvukwa (jr.) will this December launch the inaugural EthnoDesignFashionWeek and invites designers, students of all fashion-related sectors and industries to participate.

The EthnoDesignFashionWeek to be held in Harare, 5-8 December 2007, will showcase collections from both international and Zimbabwean fashion designers, on three consecutive nights for buyers, media,
professionals, as well as general public to view.

As part of the main activities, EDFW is also planning the outdoor carnival, with the theme of "Ethno-Eco Fashion and the Street Cultures ", which incorporates the ideas of concern for highly innovative ecological creations. This showcase, is aimed at promoting ecological sustainability and ethno-fashion designing. It
will provide the media, photographers and visitors with beautiful memories as well as encouraging many to return for the next year event.

To focus the eyes of the industry on the emerging innovative and creative talent that exists in Zimbabwe, EDFW will be hosting the premiere "ethno-eco t-shirt design contest" aimed at encouraging, exposing and promoting young talent.

"The submitted design will be judged by the audiences on how well it relates to the values of EthnoDesignFashionWeek as an event with an ethnocentric and ecological consciousness, its innovativeness within the specification parameters, its potential appeal and the quality of the final project. We are looking for designs that are easily understood and tell a simple visual story that anyone can understand in a moment." said Belinda Chirengendure, spokesperson
of the EthnoDesignFashionWeek.

The design duo are building on the success of
EthnoDesignFashionWeek on the heels of the recent presentation of their tribal fusion collection in Sandton City, South Africa, and also on Zwangendaba's shortlisting for the Global Young Social Entrepreneurs’ 2007 Awards.

"We are proud to bring the excitement and talent at the shows to bring people from other nations who love fashion. We are continuing to connect the global fashion community, and have sent out invitations to notable designers whom we look forward to showcase at the fashion week" said Chirengendure.
