The Control Arms committee at Oxfam Canada's Toronto Office launched 100 days of action in March to raise awareness on arms transfers, which fuel violent conflict, poverty and suffering, affecting people worldwide.
On Thursday June 15th at 7pm we will have a film screening "In a Soldier's Footsteps" (Director, Mette Zuruneith 2005) at the Bloor Cinema (506 Bloor St W, Toronto) showcasing the Control Arms Campaign. Following the film there will be a panel discussion on child soldiers and we will also be collecting signatures for the Million Faces Petition which will send a powerful, global message of support to the world's governments for an International Arms Trade Treaty.
"Without strict control, weapons will continue to fuel violent conflict, state repression, crime, and domestic abuse. Unless governments act to stop the spread of arms, more lives will be lost, more human rights violations will take place, and more people will be denied the chance to escape poverty... Urgent measures are needed immediately to stop this suffering." -Control Arms Campaign
Please come out and show your support to help minimize the devastating effects of armed conflict!
